EDDY CURRENTS
Eddy current array (ECA) is a nondestructive testing technology that provides the ability to electronically drive multiple eddy current coils, which are placed side by side in the same probe assembly. Each individual eddy current coil in the probe produces a signal relative to the phase and amplitude of the structure below it. This data is referenced to an encoded position and time and represented graphically as a C-scan image. Most conventional eddy current flaw detection techniques can be reproduced with ECA inspections; however, the remarkable advantages of ECA technology allow improved inspection capabilities and significant time savings.
The sensor is connected to the equipment, it is adjusted and the calibration begins with the reference block.Once the equipment is calibrated, we will begin with the inspection in the area of interest of the component, the equipment screen is observed to analyze the variations that suffer the currents that are induced to the material while the sensor is passed over the surface, when the detection of a relevant indication is made, the dimensional measurements of the discontinuity will be carried out and evaluated according to the regulations or customer criteria to determine if it is accepted or rejects said indication.
ECA technology includes the following advantages:
- A larger area can be scanned in a single-probe pass, while maintaining a high resolution.
- Less need for complex robotics to move the probe; a simple manual scan is often enough.
- C-scan imaging improves flaw detection and sizing.
- Complex shapes can be inspected using probes customized to the profile of the part being inspected.
- Detection of surface and sub-surface discontinuities such as cracks, seams, corrosion, erosion and / or mechanical damage on the surface of the pieces.
- Using eddy currents, material properties can be determined, including measurements of conductivity, permeability, hardness, heat treatment condition, alloy classification, and metallographic conditions.
- Measurement of thicknesses of a non-conductive coating on a conductive metal, with very good accuracy for small thicknesses.
- Measurement of thicknesses of a non-conductive coating on a conductive metal, with very good accuracy for small thicknesses.
- Bolt thread inspections for the detection and evaluation of cracks and corrosion.
- Instant evaluation
- It is not required to remove corrosion protection for the inspection.
